Online SQP Courses

Vetpol online SQP courses are designed to be studied where and when suits, dipping in and out as time allows. Students have a full two years from the time of purchase in which to pass their exams and become qualified.

Vetpol online SQP courses are designed for self-learning to fit around work and home life. The materials are broken into sections. The modules also contain exercises designed to develop understanding of the SQP role and multiple choice questions at the end of every unit to test learning. Questions that arise may be asked via a private support forum, with answers provided by other SQPs, students and industry experts.

Which SQP modules can I study?

The Core Module gives you the basics on veterinary medicines regulation, storage, distribution and the fundamentals of disease management. It also includes a section on communication, an essential skill for SQPs.

To the Core Module you add at least one of the following species modules:

for dogs, cats and rabbits.

Module A covers meeting the welfare needs of dogs, including in-depth training around ectoparasites and endoparasites and how best to treat them.

Module B mainly covers cats and rabbits. The content includes meeting the welfare needs of cats and rabbits plus in-depth knowledge around ectoparasites and endoparasites and how best to treat them.
for people working with cattle, pigs and sheep. Due to the number of different breeds of farm animals, this species module is the largest of all the species modules.

Module A covers general knowledge about welfare, breeding, basic anatomy in the context of medicines, heard health plans and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Module B focuses on sheep, including the sheep farmers calendar, vaccination, lambing and the key diseases of sheep where SQPs are involved.

Module C looks at pigs, including the pig farmers year and the main diseases of pigs that SQPs might be involved in.

Module D covers beef cattle and the key disease and treatments where SQPs are involved.

Module E covers dairy cattle, including the dry period, lactation, the dairy farmers year and the main disease where SQPs are involved.

Module F takes an in-depth look at the parasites affecting farm animals, including ectoparasites and endoparasites and the various treatments available for SQPs to prescribe.

Module A covers the basics of welfare, equine passports, “Clean Sport”, wound care and hoof care.

Module B covers ectoparasites and endoparasites and how to control them adopting “best practice” principles.
for poultry and other avian species.

Module A looks at the various ways in which poultry are kept, how birds function, anatomy and general signs of disease.

Module B covers the key diseases of poultry, including ectoparasites and endoparasites and how to treat them.

To qualify as a SQP, students must pass an exam for the Core Module and at least one Species Module.

Other important information

With Vetpol’s online SQP course, multiple species modules may be studied at the same time or added at a later date, once qualified.

In the event of failure of either the Core module to a chosen Species Module, the student only needs to re-sit the exam that has been failed, provided this happens within 12 months of the date of the first exam.
